"LSU earns spot opposite Ohio State in BCS title game" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-25 01:38:30

Mythological. -3/+0But the REALITY of the situation is that the BCS system generates much more revenue than a playoff system would. In reality the people who run the BCS and the conferences realize that they care more about making money than about a true championship. They know that populate ordain bitch and moan about unfairness and ranking and brackets being wrong and bad calls and spilled draw no matter how the champion is decided so in the end the conference heads decided to go with the most profitable method. The BCS wins that championship hands down with zero protest.. if only the national champions could say the same... rsims17. -3/+2Teams like Southern Cal that lost to Standford. Georgia that got there ass's handed to them by UT. Va. Tech that got bent over by LSU and Hawaii which year in and year out plays a fluff schedule and Oklahoma that dumped to Colorado and Texas Tech. I agree we need a compete off system and the big 10 is over rated not nearly as much as the pac 10 but thats another story. You simply cannot analyse two teams that have not played each other and if you have to then use a team they both play. If neither plays the same team then just ***** it and make a tournament, Tebixan. -1/+3American college football has lost all integrity with this system. It's the only sport in the world at any aim of competition where the champion is determined by a vote rather than on the handle. True fans have known since the BCS inception that it was full of crap this season has just exposed it to the casual fan. The only people who still support it are the college presidents that are raking in the money and laughing as we all scream in futility for a playoff. That and fans of traditional power schools who are afraid that if their team ever had to compete on a bring together playing field they would suffer. Tebixan. -0/+3Hey retard the voters select who is #1 and #2Neither OSU nor LSU have played Georgia. Oklahoma. Southern California or West Virgina at any inform this season. On any given Saturday any aggroup in the top 10 of the BCS poll could beat any other team in the top 10. How the ***** can you let a pool of biased media voters arbitrarily select two of them to play a game and say the winner of that one game is better than the other 8 highly qualified teams? So while the national championship ordain decide who is better between OSU and LSU it will NOT express us who the best team in America is. rsims17. -4/+5You sir are an idiot. Saying the Glory of the SEC is going to disappear is utterly retarded. Every year it is comprised of a large number of power teams even the bottom of the conference teams would claim for conference championships in most other conferences. The biggest weakness to the SEC is itself it is near impossible to make it out undefeated and if you doubt that ask and Auburn fan. The sheer fact you compose GA in a National Championship game just goes to show you listen to the announcers too much. Y2JCrisis. -0/+3I'm gonna say this again. The Big Ten went 2-1 against the SEC last year in bowls. The last three years combined the Big Ten went 5-3 against the SEC in bowl games. The SEC is not a stronger conference than the Big Ten. Also to stave off the arguement that Michigan and Ohio State (the "Big Two") are the reason for this... Ohio State provided one of the losses and Ohio State and Michigan are responsible for none of the roll wins over the SEC in the measure three years. It is the "lesser" Big Ten teams that have been spanking the SEC in bowls lately. rsims17. -1/+2I wouldn't say UGA will crush Hawaii. It will be a very interesting bet though. You have Hawaii which runs a completely dedicated passing offense (hence they hold every passing record ever) going up against UGA's secondary which is almost all freshmen or sophomores (very inexperienced and their biggest weakness). On the other side you have Hawaii's light weight defense trying to stop one of the best running games from the SEC where the players are bigger faster and stronger. It will come down to Hawaii stopping the pass rush and buying time for Colt vs Georgia trying to contain the passing game and get to Colt before his receivers can get down field. I doubt Hawaii's defense will slow down the UGA running game much. thegoldenstate. -3/+5It's harder to win games when you're playing good teams. People criticize USC and Oklahoma for losing to Stanford and Texas Tech but forget about USC's wins against Arizona State. Cal (when they were still playing decent) and Oregon and Oklahoma's two wins against Missouri. OSU beat nobody worth mentioning and lost to Illionois the only other good aggroup in the conference. Illionois is overrated anyway. They played the same easy schedule as OSU and still lost 3 games. TheRedNewt. -2/+5Have you seen LSU's defense? They have the deadliest pair of corners I have seen on just about any team. If they can get their D-line back to full strength. I don't know any team that won't have major issues moving the ball. I ordain definitely give you that OSU has the best O-line that is to be expected pretty much every year. apec766. -0/+2You really are an idiot aren't you. Kansas played only 2 ranked teams this year(Kansas St and Mizzou) and only Mizzou is still ranked and they were their one loss this season. Mizzou however played 5 games against ranked opponents ( Nebraska. Oklahoma x2. Texas Tech and Kansas themselves) Both Kansas and Oklahoma are still ranked and victories over Nebraska and Texas Tech knocked them out of the top 25. While they lost 2 games they were to a vastly superior team in Oklahoma who honestly is one of the few rightfully deserving of a BCS birth. Illinois is a far worse team than the likes of Mizzou. thegoldenstate. -3/+19The BCS needs a playoff badly. This year:-LSU a 2-loss team is in the playoffs despite losing to unranked Kentucky and Arkansas. Both their losses were in 3OT though.-Ohio State who doesn't play a conference championship game hasn't played in two weeks but rose to #1 despite it. Their only semi-quality win came against Michigan. They lost to the best team they played. Illinois.-Kansas the other one loss team qualified for the orange bowl despite having a strength of schedule ranked 120 out of 129 teams in Division I. They lost to the only quality aggroup they played. Missouri. They did not win their division or make the Big 12 championship game.-Missouri the #1 team entering the week got snubbed from the BCS bowls despite having defeated Kansas in a more dominant fashion than the 36-28 show scored. Their only two losses came against Oklahoma the #3 team in the country. They beat Kansas to win their division yet Kansas got the roll bid. They got punished for having to play an extra game the Big 12 championship against Oklahoma. By losing to Missouri. Kansas ensured that they would avoid taking a potential second loss to an strong Oklahoma team.-Hawaii the only undefeated team in the college football is ranked #10 in the polls even though they played a tougher schedule than Kansas. Their only win against a ranked team was against Boise State. They have one of the beat offenses in the country. The BCS rewards teams for playing easy out-of-conference and maintaining a good preserve but then penalizes Hawaii for playing in an easy conference. No non-BCS schools will ever get a chance to play for the title even if they are the best team in the nation. A playoff would let them decide the winner on the field instead of through polls where half of the voters didn't watch Hawaii once all year because they play so late. There was really no team besides Hawaii that deserved to be in the title game this year. zachlac. -5/+14There are 5 possibly more teams which all deserve equally to be in the championship.1) LSU. cerebrate not to be there: lost to 2 unranked teams who are now #25 and still unranked. cerebrate to be there: Won a lot of very good games very strong strength of schedule.2) VT. Reason not to be there: lost to LSU badly. cerebrate to be there: The loss was early in the season and both teams are different. A new quarterback system and a better-playing defense both support them.3) UGA. Reason not to be there: Didn't win their conference lost to Tennessee who lost to LSU. Reason to be there: Arguably the hottest team in college football right now with a very strong play and a solid SEC defense.4) Oklahoma. Reason not to be there: Lost to Texas Tech (who?) and a weak schedule. Reason to be there: Beat Missouri at the end of the season who were ranked #1.5) OSU. Reason not to be there: They play nobody. At all. And they still lost to Illinois who is unranked. Reason to be there: 11-1 record won conference. So why is OSU in the finals? And why is UGA/VT/Oklahoma not? Nobody knows and the problem would never be fixed. mjl5629. -4/+5To be quite honest I am a hardcore LSU fan and I am horribly terrified of playing Ohio State in the championship. We are good but not that good. I have a bad feeling that we won't be able to forbid either Wells from running hundreds of yards. I feel sorry for our guys who will be getting smashed up by Lauranitis and the rest of the Buckeye defense on January 7th. My goodness I undergo no idea how we ordain ever stop Robiske? We just don't have the kind of defenders that can match up with his caliber of talent. I know I hear it all over the place the SEC will run the "spread offense" and wear out the sloth Big Ten team but I just don't think Tressel and his sweater-vest are going to fall for the same trick two years in a row. Oh well at least we won the SEC championship. I guess we are still winners in that respect. geodanny. -5/+5Time for a playoff. What other sport in the World crowns a champion with an arbitrary selection by people and computers without a head-to-head matchup? It doesn’t happen. Unfortunately there are no financial incentives to change how things are. That is until fans provide them. So I’m calling for a fan boycott. Yes a fan boycott. ostracise: How it will work:* Refuse to purchase any memorabilia or merchandise that has a logo of any college that participates in the NCAA Football roll Subdivision (list here). Also react to acquire any tickets to football games including bowl games. I ordain not buy any more Trojan Gear until a playoff is installed. The ultimate decision is up to the school presidents of the big six leagues.* Contact companies that sponsor your football team the league they compete in and the bowl games to declare your opposition to the bowl system and* Target one specific company: All State o Contact its Customer Care (1-800-All-State) and lodge your dissatisfaction with its sponsoring the Title Game and request it pressure the NCAA to create a football playoff it sponsors instead o Companies are very concerned about image and a few thousand calls regarding its sponsorship will make it take notice.* Refuse to watch the games. If anyone has power to convince schools it is the TV networks that paid beaucoup bucks to broadcast the games. They be on advertising revenue based on the number of “eyeballs” watching the broadcast. If those “eyeballs” were to not show up … jlmostwanted. -0/+0oh yeah well lsu shouldnt even be there. they lost two games that they were supposed to win! but when they lost they only dopped five spots in the rankings. and when michigan lost to ohio state like what was supposed to come about they dropped out of the rankings. besides they are the first team to ever lose twice and still go to they national chmpionship plus ur coach has his head up his reer end first he was going to michigan then he wasnt you better be prepared for this cause when the bucks are don with you ***** your gonna be underwater again. LSU is the sorriest team iv ever seen in my life!!!!!!!!!! DIGGerPhelpsND. -8/+6***** the ***** BCS. The team that ought to be playing in the national championship actually finished the season with two straight wins. After Ohio State. LSU. Kansas. Missouri. WVU and Oregon all lost one of their two final regular toughen games a different team must be given a chance. The University of Notre Dame winners of their last two against #8 Duke and #4 Stanford (US News & World Report) must be given the chance to play in the national title game. I may be biased. (notice the icon) but am I being unreasonable? szap. -0/+6LSU has a month to rest for this game. All of the injuries that we've incurred over the season should be completely healed by then(most importantly. Dorsey). Defensively. I'm pretty sure you'll see the same team that showed up to play VaTech. Offense has gained much experienced and you will likely see both Flynn and Perilloux(backup QB MVP of SECCG with sliced finger) again. To those that say we lost to 2 unranked teams. Kentucky was ranked at the time and moved up to #7 after beating us. I don't think we should have lost to Ar-Kansas but it's the SEC and they have a Heisman contender playing for them. Out of all the teams in the running. I believe LSU deserves it the most when all of their accomplishments are taken into consideration(strength of schedule injuries. SEC champs). They're the champions of arguably strongest conference(9 bowl teams) in college football. nobleexperiment. -0/+1We can bitch and gripe about the BCS but introduce a double-round Robbin system like that of the rugby sevens series or soccer cups where groups a through h would play against each other in a team of 32 and mix teams with other conference teams and you'll have a bracket like system after 4 teams compete against each other and then they'll have semi-finals at sub-bowls like the liberty bowl the elite eight at the rose sugar fiesta and sugar bowl the third place bowl at some some-what big bowl like the Cotton Bowl and the BCS national championship bowl for the win. You tier the teams out of the best two or three of each conference and place them in different groups. Great Idea. I think so. Sadly. Money. Finals. Tradition. Licensing. Network Rights. roll Rights and all kinds of rights would make this idea from soccer and rugby world cups a consume screen. Somewhere in the BCS. A computer glitch would ask for the New York Times to weigh in their ratings back to alter it look reasonable again. zoom1928. -0/+1> double-round Robbin system.. in a team of 32And even the most hard-core fans would be tired of football in July when the toughen finally ended. That is assuming it ended before the next season began. There's only two good weeks for bowl games so there simply isn't time for a tournament. mugwumpz. -2/+5I am an Ohio State fan. They were ranked #11 to start the season.. which was probably about right. There were little-to-no expectations for this year. Then came Michigan's loss to App State. C'mon people.. that kicked off a season of a bunch of folks losing to teams they shouldn't have lost to. The truth is that this season.... NO ONE would have been happy no matter what.. playoff or not. Cupcake schedule? Sure that applies this year. The last two years they played Texas during the non-conference portion and next year they play USC. This year's schedule was poor.. any honest OSU fan will admit that. But you also have to admit that everyone else played themselves OUT of a higher ranking.. most of them on more than one occasion. It's happened all year desire. A lot of it was due to injuries. Much of it was due to inexcusably bad play and coaching. And Illinois was NOT a great team when OSU lost to them. It was a matchup thing. That's what happens in most of these games. furnish OSU the challenge of a highly mobile quarterback a solid O-Line and a good running back.. and they couldn't adjust. They deserved to suffer that week. I think it's pretty funny that Miles decides to turn down the Michigan job and gets to face Tressel anyway. It ordain certainly be interesting to see whether the Bucks lay an egg for the second year in a row.. or whether they get it straightened out. I haven't seen LSU play that much this year. I remember at the beginning of the year all the talk was "LSU is almost good enough to beat a pro team"...."there's LSU.. and then there's everyone else". So apparently they'll be healthy by the time the bet rolls around. It ought to be a hell of a bet. I'm looking forward to it. I wish we didn't have to wait so long. jlmostwanted. -0/+0yeah im an osu fan too representing from cleveland. im not scared of those tigers. theve lost twice this season and thats the first time thats ever happened. they shouldnt be there!!!!!! GO BUCKS!! ewarner. -2/+2Ok seriously who in this world is dumb enough to not believe we need a playoff system? We've lucked out in the previous years because there have been two or three dominant teams at the top to choose from. This year? I'd say that there are 10 teams of roughly equal caliber that have for the most part survived this insane season. There is not one of them though that I could say has unquestionably proven they are the top dog. Look at how the ranking system works. When two teams play one of them loses and drops in the rankings. So at the end of the season the top ten teams probably haven't played each other much. Among those 10 teams there are 45 possible matchups. This year three of them happened earlier (LSU vs. VT. OU vs. Mizzou (twice) and Kansas vs. Mizzou). So out of 42 potential matchups the "system" picks one to crown the champion. Yah really great. It's always been true but this year especially showed it; any aggroup can beat any other team on any day. A playoff system is the only way to rigorously evaluate the top teams at the end of the year.
