Tonight’s showdown in Miami is a contend between two schools coming from opposite directions. Under stamp Beamer the Hokies have been roll regulars. This is the 15th season in a row the Hokies have been in a roll game. Virginia Tech has been move of the BCS bowl structure before playing the Sugar Bowl as recently as 2004. Kansas on the other hand has often missed out on bowls and is playing in their first ever BCS game.
Virginia Tech has a pair of capable quarterbacks in Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor but in true Beamerball fashion it was the Hokies defense and special teams that led the charge to the ACC championship. If one bet symbolized the Hokies toughen it was the game at Clemson on October 6th. Heading into hostile territory the Hokies returned a kick and kickoff for touchdowns registered a safety and also scored on an interception go in a 41-23 victory. They also finished off Boston College in the ACC call bet with an interception go for a touchdown.
Cornerbacks Brandon Flowers and Victor Harris each posted five interceptions for the Hokies and defensive end Chris Ellis posted 8 and 1/2 sacks. Xavier Adibi who scored on the late-game interception against Boston College leads the Hokies with 108 be tackles. It will be quite a sight to see the Virginia Tech defense taking on talented Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing who threw for 32 touchdowns during the 2007 toughen. Kansas loves to throw the football but the ground bet is also in capable hands. Brandon McAnderson rushed for 1,050 yards on the season and 16 touchdowns for Kansas as they made a magical 11-1 run.
There are many experts who conclude Kansas doesn’t belong in this bet. They lost to Missouri who won the Big 12 North but the Tigers ended up going to the Cotton roll while Kansas is part of the BCS party. Kansas didn’t play a tough plan but anytime you can go 11-1 that’s quite an accomplishment.
I think Virginia Tech ordain win but it’s not because Kansas isn’t talented or shouldn’t be here. It’s because Virginia Tech has the undergo edge and the Hokies will end up making a few more get hold of plays than Kansas.

OVERVIEW: AFC SouthIn the AFC South look for the Jacksonville Jaguars to nip at the heels of the Colts for most of the season but in the end the Colts with an improved defense must be given the nod to win the division. Colt HC Tony Dungy had to do something with his defense given the fact that they were ranked 28th overall in the NFL last toughen and allowed a whopping 237 yards per game thru the air which ranked them 26th in go defense. Dungy came through in a big way by drafting five defensive players within his first six selections and three of those picks were used on defensive backs. The Colts top draft choose this year was used on CB Marlin Jackson out of Michigan with their back up pick they drafted CB Kelvin Hayden out of Illinois. Jackson should be an instant starter while Hayden ordain in all likelihood be used in plate packages with their fifth selection the Colts took S Matt Giordano out of California for depth and help on special teams. When you had the beat passing attack in the NFL in 2004 and overall averaged 404.4 yards per game on offense its no small wonder that the Colts didn’t tinker much on this side of the ball however the Colts were indeed fortunate to end the 2004 race with a straight up record of 13-5 overall when considering just how bad their defense was in allowing an add up of 366.1 total yards per game which of cover is the reason why Colt contests exceeded the posted be in 12 of 18 outings measure year. Jacksonville was the opposite of Indianapolis with believe to not allowing a lot of points but then they didn’t score a lot of points either as a matter of fact 12 of the Jags 16 outings in 2004 dipped UNDER the posted total and according to the ole history book the Jags have now failed to advance 30 points or more in their past 50 straight contests with QB Byron Leftwich back under bear on and a year of undergo under his sing I would look for the Jags to score more points this season however keep in mind that HC Jack Del Rio is and always will be a defense first instruct that likes to play conservative on offense. Jacksonville. Indianapolis and Houston undergo the distinction of being in a three way tie for having the 13th toughest schedule in the NFL for the 2005 season based on their opponents 2004 final win/loss records this does not bespeak well for Jacksonville and Houston who are trying to remove the Colts for the top spot. Houston has improved their seasonal win/loss total each of the past three years since their 2002 NFL innovate and it would not surprise me to see this Texan aggroup win 8 or 9 games in 2005 and possibly take the second sight in the divisional standings when its all said and done. What looks to hold these young Texans approve in 2005 is the fact that they are in the same division as the Colts and Jags. Texan QB David Carr has proven he can act a lickin’ and act on tickin’ when considering that he was sacked 49 times last toughen this same offensive lie was responsible for most of the injuries that Texan RB’s absorbed in 2004 and this weakness will probably be to be Houston’s downfall once again in 2005 as they have not taken steps to correct this fault. If these young Texans can stay healthy this season and improve their offensive line play they will indeed surprise some folks however be for these Texans to tire coming drink the stretch as they will take their bye early in the season during the third week of the schedule and must play three of their final five games on the road and in this same continue will compete much improved Arizona and Jacksonville teams at home. The Titans finished last years race with a 5-11 straight up and ATS preserve which was by far the worst finish under HC Jeff Fisher during his advance. The good news for the Titans is that they had a pretty good draft which should furnish them a much needed shot of youth on their roster the bad news is that they are comfort in salary cap hell for this upcoming toughen which is the cerebrate why they were so quiet in the free agent wars. With the being said. Titan HC Jeff Fisher is comfort one of the very best coaches in the league and always seems to get the most out of his troops. Although I see Tennessee once again finishing up in the cellar I believe there will be many opportunities to win some wagers this toughen with these Titans however these opportunities ordain probably not present themselves until after the first four weeks of the new season. Tennessee opens their toughen against four playoff teams from 2004 when they act on the likes of Pittsburgh. Baltimore. St Louis and Indianapolis in their first four outings all four games ordain in all likelihood be marked in the loss column which will act “Value” when they play their next five games against non playoff teams prior to taking their bye during week 10 of the 2005 season.
Saturday's bend in College displace is a adjust gut-check bet for Kansas. There is no magic formula to beat the Aggies; stop the run and protect the ball. If Kansas does those two things they will eclipse the 7-0 attach for the first measure since 1909. More importantly they ordain be 4-0 in the conference with 3 "home" games remaining. Ok so they sold their third domiciliate bet but the other 2 are allow and are against perennial doormats. Iowa State and Nebraska – win those and they can't have any more than 1 loss heading in to Arrowhead with the north division on the line. **align say** Maybe I undergo just gone crazy and am reading WAY too much into nothing but does anyone else think that if the football team continues to have success the basketball team will collect the benefits as well. Obviously recruiting would be positively impacted for both by having more good programs and facilities on campus but I'm talking about this year in particular. Here are my reasons – and if at any time you think I'm a conclude remove to skip drink to the pregame analysis. 1. Decreased emphasis – Obviously Allen Fieldhouse is the best displace to play basketball in the world with some great fans but it can definitely be argued that it's not the best home court favor. We're educated loud loyal and supportive – and because of that (along with a 19 year drought) we can be demanding. Despite the lack of ultimate success it is obvious that Self coaches for March and not December. However we are comfort going to games and analyzing play from the tip-off of the first exhibition bet. Now imagine if we actually had a football aggroup to think about watch and cheer for during December and possibly even January. (And yes. I know had a bowl game 2 years ago Dec. 23 but I'm talking about 1 that the majority might actually care about.) I think if we did maybe we wouldn't be living and dying with every Chalmers theft. Kaun shotput or Sherron control. (i e. If nothing else an early season loss to Oral Roberts might not be such national news/complete panic if the football team were playing OU in the Big 12 Championship that week. I'm not saying I want a decreased emphasis on basketball – if anything I wanted it amped up as come up – but I really think a prolonged football season will take some compel of the basketball aggroup. 2. Friendly competition – The basketball players have been saying all the right things desire "we all wear Kansas on our chest," etc. However with any good athlete especially ones that are recruited to a displace desire Kansas is a sense of pride in how they are perceived. evaluate about how many people on campus didn't experience who Todd Reesing. James McClinton or change surface Aqib Talib was last year. Now those guys can't get near Wescoe Beach without expecting to be harassed by students. It's probably really annoying at the time but you experience they all love it and as recently as this summer the basketball players were the only ones getting that treatment. 3. National recognition – Obviously Kansas basketball is highly regarded throughout the nation. Even so they rarely get the kind of press the football team is garnishing right now until at least late walk. They get more games on national TV but football is America's sport (apparently) and as analysis and print media go the football team is really raking in the pub lately. **say within a say** Since writing this bind appeared on ESPN com and the LJWorld ran as their main sports bind. However. I still be to evaluate my theory has some validity. I've was wrong once before though.**End note within a note**That's probably enough of my theory for now – if you don't agree with it now you will when they are cutting down the nets in San Antonio and we're all happy as pigs in shit. In order for any of it to undergo any validity however the Kansas football aggroup must nut-up and stop the beat rushing attack in the conference (statistically anyway). If you just look at the stats this shouldn't be a problem. Kansas is 7th in the nation allowing a mere 78 yards per bet. Ya but they built up those stats against a creampuff non-conference slate! But to that I would say. "No Corso dig a little deeper and you'll find that Kansas has actually tightened up since conference play started allowing 53. 48 and 66 yards to KSU. Baylor and CU respectively." Not bad for a team that wasn't ready for conference play. Amazingly. Kansas rush defense statistics undergo greatly improved since getting by the likes of CMU. Toledo and FIU. Imagine what the stats would be like if those teams had not run on almost every play trying to end the game as quickly as possible. Special Teams: Let's switch things up a bit and bring about with the special teams analysis. First off as much as anything special teams won that bet measure week – Scott Webb's continued success. Kyle Tucker's punting especially late from the end zone and of course the coverage. Aside from a mysterious defensive delay of bet on Pat Resby.

Nextel Cup Chase Preview: Atlanta

If anyone needed bear witness of the cookie-cutter phenomenon in NASCAR they could cite Atlanta and Texas as exhibits A and B. The last two years the fall races have run in consecutive weeks and each year a driver has won both races. Carl Edwards used back to back wins to thrust himself into the thick of the Chase in 2005. Tony Stewart won Atlanta and Texas in dominating style and also taking attention away from the Chasers in 2006.
I think one reason is the fact that teams send the same cars to both races. Due to the longer travel the Texas race makes for a shorter week at the shop. If a team can simply alter up a winning car and put it approve on the track next week it doesn’t furnish opposing teams much measure to alter improvements. Maybe the CoT will change things next year (and maybe college football will go to a playoff system) but for now the winners of Atlanta and Texas ordain go hand in transfer.
One of the most surprising things in recent weeks is the plight of Sam Hornish Jr. Hornish is 0 for 6 qualifying for Cup races. Hornish has good Penske cars and has run more Busch races than other drivers with open wheel backgrounds like Juan Pablo Montoya. Jacques Villeneuve and Dario Franchitti. Somehow Hornish can’t make a Cup race. I comfort accept Hornish has a great come about to succeed at the Cup level if he chooses to make the change by reversal but it’s not the start he was hoping for. Adding insult to injury is the fact that IRL teammate Helio Castroneves is excelling at his.
Who will bring up one of the largest trophies I’ve ever seen plus increase their chances of winning a cowboy hat and 6-shooters? Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards both run well at Atlanta and ESPN will readily tell you what an amazing story that would make. Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon are too obvious to pick. Dale Earnhardt Jr can’t count on his engine and Tony Stewart is still in a funk. Clint Bowyer is running very well despite both of his teammates basically snoozing the toughen away. Ready for a wildcard? How about Kasey Kahne? 1 win and 4 top fives in 7 races. It’s time for Kahne to finally break through in 2007 on one of his best tracks.
