Happy trails East Carolina after starting the season with two upset victories over West Virginia and Virginia Tech your hopes of reaching a BCS bowl are over. For the second straight week the ACC has upset a ranked opponent at home (Cal lost to Maryland). Must I remind you Pirates fans all you had to do was kick the field goal Skip Holtz! Tim Tebow had his first jump pass of the season and Florida won its annual Tennessee thrashing. Philip Fulmer is on his way out the door in Knoxville you can just see the disappointment on this face when the Volvs make any kind of mistake. (Check out letter “G”) However. I still don’t know how good this Gator team really is though. Tennessee failed to score any points inside the 5 yard line twice so the game should have been a lot closer than the final score suggested. Urban Meyer should be careful of a let down next week against an underrated Ole Miss team. WVU is now 1-2 on the season with only a game against Marshall left before entering conference play. Pat White has struggled without Steve Slayton although Noel Devine is more than an ample replacement and people in Morgantown are starting to curse this team: “Damn you. Rich Rodriguez the Mountaineers want they’re playbook back!” In Boulder the fans are starting to believe they have a shot at a surprise Big XII North title. Colorado has a couple of freshman running back studs a smart Cody Hawkins under center and a perfect 3-0 record to start the season. Just when you thought Les Miles couldn’t possibly find another way to win a football game the coach uses an onside kick and a halfback pass to do it again. After an atrocious first half quarterback Jarrett Lee went 11 of 17 for 187 yards and two touchdowns in the second half. Lee’s fourth quarter comeback in a hostile environment on the road was just what the LSU football team needed. With a leader established under center the Tigers now look poised to make a run at consecutive national titles. It was another disappointing loss in a big time game for Tommy Tuberville but let’s face it the Head Coach and fans at Auburn should be accustomed to it by now. The winner of this game has represented the SEC West in the conference championship game six out of the last eight years. I got to thinking what would I have asked Tennessee Head Coach Philip Fulmer at halftime? After ten minutes I realized I could only come up with rhetorical questions. And then I heard some guy in orange walking a coonhound named Smokey screaming. “Nooooooo!” Va. Tech-Tyrod Taylor is starting to play clutch and Beamer Ball will keep the Hokies in any game. Miami- I know the team is still young but boy do the Hurricanes look athletic or what? Clemson-The country shouldn’t forget about the pre-season pick to win the conference. Georgia Tech- The offense is confusing and Michael Johnson and the Yellow Jacket defense is starting to turn up the heat. North Carolina- Brandon Tate is a stud but with starting quarterback T. J. Yates injured who’s going to get him the ball? Maryland- Don’t look now but the Terps are starting to score points in bunches. 4. QB Robert Griffen III. Baylor: 14 of 25. 208 yards. 3 TD. 23 rushes. 48 yards. TD. The Georgia tailback had a field day in the dessert rushing for 149 yards and a couple scores. And who said the Bulldogs didn’t like to travel cross-country. Yes the running game is solid but the rest of the SEC should be more concerned with the solid play of Stafford and his emerging star wide-out A. J. Green. Think Arizona Statemisses starting tailback Keegan Herring? Georgia held the Sun Devils to four yards rushing on 19 attempts an average of about seven and half inches per carry. As I was watching the Baylor Connecticut game this weekend I thought. “Man the officiating is really inconsistent and just plain bad out there tonight.” And then there he was standing there all flustered. Shawn Hochuli the son of the jacked-up NFL referee Ed Hochuli who just botched the Jay Cutler fumble in Denver last week. Well. I take that back to be honest I was sort of surprised Shawn wasn’t a Pac-10 official. Notre Dame running/passing attack/run defense well I guess the whole team for that matter has yet to show up. The fans in South Bendare still waiting for Jimmy Clausen to develop into the quarterback he was supposed to be. Not missing in action this week was Javon Ringer. The senior has rushed for more than 200 yards in consecutive weeks and has 11 touchdowns on the ground in four games this season. Greg Robinson is still looking for some at Syracuse. You know things are bad when your team can’t beat Northwestern so they have to resort to scheduling northeastern. I don’t think all the directional schools in the world can keep the Orange from being the cellar dweller of the Big East. This team is bad really bad. Because of the weakness of the Pac-10 is Southern Cal a virtual lock to play in the national title game? Well I’ll put it this way besides picking the Rams to lose or the Mets bullpen to blow another save; it might be the safest bet in all of sports. BYU. Utah and TCU are all well on their way to a three way round-robin showdown in the conference. Right now the edge has to go to Max Hall and the Cougars who shutout Wyoming 44-0 this week while Utah escaped on the road at Air Force. The winner of the Mountain West and Boise State which is now slowly creeping up on the party after the Broncos win over a banged up Oregon team. The senior went 36 of 43 for a career-high 439 yards and completed a school record 20 consecutive passes in Missouri’s 42-21 win over Buffalo. Right now. Daniel has to be the nation’s front-runner for the Heisman trophy. Usually this section is devoted to a couple of clips that you won’t want to miss but this week in honor of Ball State receiver Dante Love I will leave it blank. The star receiver was critically injured in the Cardinal 42-20 victory over Indiana. According to a statement released by the university. Love will “live a happy and normal life,” but will probably not play football again. The senior went into this week leading the nation in receiving yards with 144.3 per game and will finish his career second in school history in receiving yards and touchdowns. Here’s to you Dante Love may you have many more highlights in your life off the football field. The Hurricanes looked athletic and like a team with an identity and the Seminoles certainly did not. Things got so bad in Tallahassee that Bowden benched his starter then later benched the back-up only to eventually bring his starter back from the bench in a pure act of desperation. In regards to the comment made earlier. I have devoted a special edition of Wordplay called ROB. Yes everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I didn’t want to have to do this to you but you really should watch what you say and the way that you say it. "R"emember the season you had in 2004 when you went 13-0 and had Jason Campbell. Brown and Williams. Yes that team was good but quit dwelling on the past and get back to a BCS bowl. The Olympics have come and gone twice already since the last time you won the SEC. "O"verrated trust me. Auburn is. You don’t have a quarterback you managed three points against Mississippi State which gave up 38 to Georgia Tech and your running backs have fumbling issues. "B"utt hurt. I’m sorry I hurt your feelings; you are obviously a “homer.” I guess what I meant to say was Les Miles is going to own Tommy Tuberville like Jim Tressel owned Lloyd Carr so you might want to quote on quote. “get accustomed to it.” For jumping to conclusions dont forget the last time TCU went to Oklahoma they walked away with a win. And USC in the PAC 10 everyone said they would walk through the last couple years too now look back and see it was hardly an easy road even if they did win the conference. I got to thinking what constitutes a big game? Since the 2002 season here is how Auburn has faired against Top 20 teams and in New Years Day or BCS bowl games: 2003#1 USC L 23-0#7 Tenn. W 28-21#2 LSU L 31-7#18 Ole Miss L 24-20#11 Georgia L 26-7 2004 (One amazing year and a hell-of-a-team).#4 LSU W 10-9#8 Tenn. W 34-10#5 Georgia W 24-6#15 Tenn. W 38-28#10 Va. Tech W 16-13 i thought i remember his record against the top 10 being better but i counted 11-8. but i think i remember the stat after he beat fla last year when he was at 11-5 i'm just realizing he's lost 3 in a row to the top ten. Your ability to copy scores is as faulty as your writing. Nebraska didn't beat Auburn in the Cotton Bowl.. and if you list 26 scores the record can't be 13-12. You may be a smug s-o-b but you're research and logic is sloppy. Keep working on your ABC's. 14-12 and your still a homer and butt hurt over the loss. It's ok to vent but next time I have to waste my time to research and prove someone who is blind to the truth. I'm going to charge you money. Do me a favor and not comment or read my articles again. You have been a member for two months and you still haven't written an article yet. Your negativity is unwarranted and you are not welcomed by my friends readers or many other people for that matter. Please find another Web site. Good article. I believe that PSU will win by two TD's next week not 4 points. Although Illinois is ranked and good their defense is bad while ours is good. Both our offenses are good though. Penn State should be in the Top 5 within the next few weeks. I don't think Bama will upset the Dawgs but I do think it will be close. I’m sorry I hurt your feelings; you are obviously a “homer.” I guess what I meant to say was Les Miles is going to own Tommy Tuberville like Jim Tressel owned Lloyd Carr so you might want to quote on quote. “get accustomed to it.” I think two big 10 teams in the BCS is a stretch.. they're about as bad as the Pac-10. Big East and ACC. Especially considering that you're talking about two Big-10 teams neither in the NC game. You've gotta believe that will be an SEC team. Two Big 10 teams in the BCS does seem like a stretch at first. But then there probably won't be two Big East two ACC or two PAC 10 teams either. You can't have more than 2 teams per conference so someone among Georgia. Florida and LSU will be left out and the 3rd best Big 12 team will be left out. Problems with your predictions for the BCS assuming the National Championship game happens and USC stays #1 making Oklahoma #2. Penn State is automatic in the Rose due to Big 10 deal team 2 cannot be from the same conference as #2 team without permission from the tie in bowl. You would more likely see Penn State vs BYU due to not needing a release and Utah being closer to the Rose Bowl than Missouri. That would then move Missouri back to the Fiesta the Big 12 partner. Fiesta would also get second selection. I could see them taking either team. Wisconsin or Florida. IF Miami does in fact win the ACC I think a matchup with South Florida would draw a huge crowd. So my version using your teams Rose: Penn State vs BYUOrange: Miami vs South FloridaSugar: LSU vs WisconsinFiesta: Missouri vs FloridaNC: USC vs Oklahoma I disagree. I believe a one loss Missouri would be the biggest draw to the Rose Bowl and they would jump all over the Tigers and their Heisman trophy winner. But besides that things are going to change and the unpredictable will eventually happen. We'll watch and see how things unfold. Remember it goes in order of ranking so #1 USC and #2 Oklahoma means Rose picks first but has to get permission from the host bowl for the #2 team to take a team from the same conference. This is why UGA didnt play in the Rose Bowl last year. No way was the Sugar about to let go of a SEC team. Like I said before in order for that to happen the Fiesta has to give the ok for th Rose to take a Big 12 team therefore losing a Big 12 team. Put yourself in the place of the Fiesta Bowl big wigs. Do you think they would give up that same 1 loss Missouri team with the Heisman winner?? I dont think so. Since the Fiesta Bowl would lose Oklahoma to the title game it would get one of the first replacement picks and would take Big 12 runner up Missouri. It's a slim possibility but the Fiesta Bowl could shock and take an undefeated BYU or an undefeated Boise State. FROM SPORSTLINE. COM How is there an article this long covering so many teams and topics and not one single mention of Texas? You just made Matthew McConaughey cry. You're article contained much truth and was witty at times but you sir are on my sh*t list. Step up your burnt orange game son!

In regards to the comment made earlier. I have devoted a special edition of Wordplay called ROB. Yes everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I didn’t want to have to do this to you but you really should watch what you say and the way that you say it.

Please indicate which college football team you think will win the BCS National Championship Game. I have listed the Top 10 Teams according to the Associated Press (AP) Poll. I did not enable the voting buttons because of the anonymity associated with that feature so please type in a number. 1-11 below and indicate your team if you choose option 11. "other".1. Ryan [/url]_________________May your trails be crooked winding lonesome dangerous leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds - Ed Abbey First. I believe that to win a national championship a team must be very very good and very very lucky. A key injury or a bad call can and does change everything. Going into the season. I see all of the following teams as highly likely to emerge as the BCS Champions. 1. The winner of the Ohio express - USC game on Sept. 13.2. Oklahoma3. The SEC Champions. Based on scheduling and talent. I pick Florida as the most likely team to win the SEC. It's been my observation that young teams that make it to a BCS roll the previous year usually have a good shot to make it to the championship game the following year. The SEC is the toughest conference but the SEC champion is likely to have at least two losses which will likely keep them out of the big game. My prediction is that Oklahoma will play Ohio State in the big game. Either Bob Stoops or Jim Tressel will get the BCS monkey off his back this year. Given that Ohio express has made it to the past two championship games. I predict they will win the BCS championship in '08. That's my prediction but I wouldn't bet a dime on it for the same reason that I don't buy individual stocks. Geaux Tigers! Michael_________________Invest your time actively and your money passively. beat team ordain be in the SEC. So. I equate whoever comes out of the SEC will win the mythical championship game. Probably either Georgia or Florida (although I think people are discreditng LSU and Auburn too quickly...)I'm hearing good things about Mizzou and Southern Cal as well. I sure hope we don't have to see Ohio State smoked for the third year in a row. Enough is enough with this joke of a college football championship game. Get a tournament and weed out the imposters! I concur. Simply the beat._________________Woof"By singing in harmony from the same page of the same investing hymnal the Diehards drown out market noise." --Jason Zweig quoted in The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing SEC champion vs the OSU buck-ears.. i'm biased being a tide fan but lsu lacks a quarterback and auburn is full of holes breaking in two new coordinators new offense new qb etc so i think it will come down to florida or georgia._________________Current Diehard/Boglehead Portfolio:VTSMX/VGTSX/VGSIX/VBIIX/VISVX i think stafford is the mystery man - will he be consistent enough to get things done?and will any gator have an intact ACL by the third game? _________________Current Diehard/Boglehead Portfolio:VTSMX/VGTSX/VGSIX/VBIIX/VISVX In my opinion (and we know what that is worth). GA is the likely the best team in the country but for certain they have the toughest schedule. It's gonna act a whole lot of luck for them to get thru the year undefeated or even with one loss. I think it's a toss-up whether it's GA or the Gators from the SEC and can't even rule out TN. So my vote is for the SEC champ to play Ohio State for the championship and I accept that this is probably the Buckeyes year. Looking forward to college football even more than usual - a welcome distraction from the stock market. If Wells doesn't play. I think SC wins by 10 or so. If Wells plays it's going to be a very close game that may very well come down to the last possession. If USC gets by Ohio State they only way they are going to lose is if they beat themselves. However the same is true for Ohio State. If Ohio State wins no one is going to beat Ohio State but Ohio State. If I'm a Georgia fan. I'm a little uneasy about how strong Alabama. Florida and LSU looked. The team that wins the SEC may very well be the best team in the country but I don't believe an SEC team will play for all the marbles this season. I think Missouri is an excellent team but they didn't look great yesterday other than their offense. Wouldn't that be something special if OU and Mizzou were both undefeated and played each other in the Big 12 Championship Game with the winner going to the National Championship Game?!?! _________________SPY 10%. Teams improve most between their first and second games. Last night. Alabama beat Clemson like a drum. My guess is that when the season is history we will find that Alabama isn't as a good and Clemson isn't as bad as they appeared to be last night. First games and bowl games are the most unpredictable and the least meaningful indicators of a team's ability. Best wishes,Michael_________________Invest your time actively and your money passively.

"The Big 5 College Football Games of the Weekend" posted by ~Ray

5. Clemson Tigers at Georgia Tech Yellow JacketsAnd the color Jackets fall from grace has been quick. A loss to UVA? What the hell was that. Another loss to Clemson this pass? And they can officially kiss their ACC title hopes good bye. appeal to the ACC title game goodbye toughen goodbye everything. It ordain be over. The Pick: And it will be as Clemson sneaks out of ATL with a Victory4. Michigan St. Spartans at Wisconsin BadgersTime to eliminate another pretender in the Big 10. This week it's the undefeated Spartans versus the undefeated Badgers. This pits the Spartans who usually can put up a ton of points on the come in versus the Badgers who attempt to move every bet into a snoozer. Hopefully I'm either not watching or the Spartans compel the Badgers to get aggressive on offense. The Pick: The Badgers Sneak Out with a Victory3. Auburn Tigers at Florida GatorsSo the Gators won the National Title last year even with their loss to the Auburn Tigers. Maybe it dampens the revenge calculate a bit but I'm sure the Gators are incredibly fired up for this one and were looking past shatty Ole Miss last weekend for this game. The choose: Tim Tebow and the Boys roll1a. Cal Bears at Oregon DucksNow this is a game which will probably be the most fun to watch of the pass. Both teams are explosive. Both defenses probably aren't strong enough to severely slow down the other defenses. The winner is immediately crowned second beat team in the Pac 10 the second best conference in the country. I wouldn't be surprised to see 100 points on the board at the end of the game. The Pick: Dennis Dixon Continues his improbably trek to the Heisman ceremony.1. "Texas knows it can't look past K-State" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-30 19:54:41

Overview: The Big 12 schedule is highlighted by a rematch and a mismatch that will set up an annual grudge match. Texas plays host to Kansas express who last season disturb the Longhorns. Texas could have clinched the Big 12 South championship with a victory. Oklahoma travels to Colorado for a bet that features the Sooners' defense which ranks fourth against the run. The Buffaloes add up 123.3 rushing yards per bet but that includes the 359 yards they accumulated against lowly Miami University last week. The Longhorns and Sooners could be vulnerable if they're looking ahead to next week's Red River Rivalry. Best matchup: Kansas State-Texas. Last season Texas appeared to be cruising to the South Division title until going to Manhattan. Kan. for what was expected to be an easy victory. Instead. K-State's threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-42 disturb. Kansas express (2-1) which has scored 95 points in its two previous games and is coming off an open week goes to Austin to face the unbeaten but unimpressive Longhorns. Freeman has thrown for 559 yards in the past two games and will test the Longhorns' defense. Texas' defense has been inconsistent at beat and allowed UCF to advance 32 points two weeks ago. Texas tailback has rushed for 471 yards and has exceeded 100 yards in three of four games. But running doesn't figure to be easy against Kansas State which ranks ninth nationally in rush defense. The pressure is on: Texas A&M coach. It seems the pressure is really never off Franchione who led the Aggies to nine victories a year ago but still is getting blasted by fans in College displace. Last week's disappointing 34-17 nationally televised loss at Miami fanned the flames of discontent. A loss to Baylor this pass would create a raging inferno. The Bears who haven't managed a winning season in 11 years recently undergo given the Aggies a hard time. Baylor won in 2004 forced overtime in 2005 and played A&M change state in 2006. Losing to Miami on the road may be tolerable to the Aggies but losing to Baylor in College Station may turn Franchione's staunchest supporters against him.. Who's hot: Colorado linebacker Jordan Dizon accumulated 55 tackles in nonconference compete. He leads the nation in be tackles and tackles per game. Nebraska quarterback has thrown for 827 yards and five touchdowns in the past two games. He set a school record with 438 passing yards in last week's 41-40 victory over roll express. Baylor quarterback already has thrown 14 touchdowns.
