Overview: Only two games on this week's schedule pit conference rivals against each other but one of those matchups is a doozy. Boston College's game at Georgia Tech could foreshadow this season's ACC title game. Virginia visits North Carolina in the other conference game. The ACC is 7-20 in nonconference games against BCS-league teams but the league could go a long way toward redeeming itself by winning a couple of big intersectional games: West Virginia-Maryland on Thursday night and Florida State-Colorado on Saturday night. Best matchup: Georgia Tech RB vs. Boston College run defense. We just as easily could have used this space to talk about the intriguing matchup between first-team All-ACC QB of Boston College and Georgia Tech's outstanding pass rush but we feel this game will come down to how effectively the Yellow Jackets run the ball. Choice has nine consecutive 100-yard games and is the nation's ninth-leading rusher. BC is fourth in the nation in run defense and is allowing only 1.2 yards per carry. The pressure is on: N. C. State QB. In his first game since winning the Wolfpack's starting job. Beck – a transfer from Nebraska – threw five interceptions and lost a fumble in a 37-17 loss at Boston College. Beck retained his starting job but a poor performance against I-AA Wofford could tempt coach Tom O'Brien to give opening-game starter a second chance. Who's hot: Choice has averaged 158.3 rushing yards per game over his last three contests in a stretch that started with last season's Gator Bowl. … Clemson QB has thrown seven touchdown passes with no interceptions in his first two starts. … Maryland RB has rushed for at least 100 yards in each of the past two weeks. … N. C. State WR/KR ranks ninth in the nation with 207 all-purpose yards per game. … North Carolina LB ranks ninth in the nation with 13.5 tackles per game. … Virginia DE has recorded two sacks in each of the Cavaliers' two games. … North Carolina WR/KR has scored six touchdowns – three on receptions and three on returns – in his past three games. …Wake Forest WR had 126 receiving yards in the season-opener and 116 rushing yards last week. … Maryland QB has completed 75.5 percent of his passes. Who's not: Miami QB completed only 40 percent of his passes in two games before losing his starting job to Kyle Wright. … Virginia Tech QB lost his job to true freshmen after being benched in the first half of a 48-7 loss to LSU. … Duke kicker is 1-for-4 on field-goal attempts. … Duke QB and Virginia QB have thrown twice as many interceptions as touchdown passes. … Wake Forest RB and Virginia Tech RB have averaged just 2.7 yards per carry. Keep your eye on: Clemson guard has spent some practice time as the Tigers' first-team center this week though Clemson coaches haven't indicated whether they plan to move Austin to that spot. started the first two games at center. … Florida International offensive lineman should look familiar to Miami fans. He's the son of Hurricanes coach. Numbers game: Virginia Tech's next victory will be the 200th of Hokies coach 's career. … Boston College's defense leads the nation with nine interceptions. … Georgia Tech ranks among the nation's top 10 teams in 10 statistical categories. The Yellow Jackets are second in tackles for loss fourth in rushing offense fourth in sacks fifth in net punting fifth in fewest sacks allowed fifth in kickoff-return average seventh in rushing offense seventh in turnover margin eighth in total defense and ninth in scoring offense. … 's second-half touchdown run in a 48-7 loss to LSU kept alive Virginia Tech's string of 150 consecutive games without getting shut out. That represents the ACC's longest active scoring streak. Freshman to watch: The obvious choice here is Virginia Tech QB who makes his first career start Saturday against Ohio. Taylor replaced an ineffective last week and rushed for the Hokies' only touchdown in a 48-7 loss to LSU. Taylor's mobility gives Virginia Tech an added dimension though his inexperience could cause problems. They said it: "Basically we were embarrassed last year in the first half. When we stepped up we were still down by a lot of points but we showed them we had a lot of heart and we're not going to let anyone roll over us. This year I think we're trying to come out right from the first play and try and hit them in the mouth and set the tone. They think they're going to have a pretty easy game with us but we're not going to let that happen."--Maryland DT to TerrapinTimes com about Thursday's game with West Virginia which beat the Terps 45-24 last season after scoring the game's first 28 points. "FIU is doing a good job. They are in there fighting. … What I meant by fighting was that FIU is in there battling. I want to make sure I clarify that."--Miami coach Randy Shannon to The St. Petersburg Times about Saturday's opponent. Shannon wanted to clarify his word choice because of the brawl that marred last season's Miami-FIU game. "It's kind of scary how much Tyrod reminds us of Marcus (Vick) back there the way he throws the ball. He brings a certain type of swagger to the offense. You know that you can win behind this guy."--Virginia Tech WR to The Associated Press on Taylor who was named the starter this week. Injury update: Boston College DE will miss the Georgia Tech game with an injured left knee. RB/KR has missed the Eagles' first two games with a concussion. … Florida State TB sustained a concussion last week but he still expects to play against Colorado. … N. C. State DT had arthroscopic knee surgery Sunday and is expected to miss at least two weeks. … Virginia LB has practiced this week but he remains questionable for the North Carolina game with an ankle injury. Etc.: Florida State defensive coordinator missed the Seminoles' 34-24 victory over UAB after coming down with pneumonia last week. His status for the Colorado game remains uncertain. … Maryland QB has been suspended for the season but he still has found a way to make a contribution. Portis is playing the role of West Virginia QB on the scout team this week. … Florida International coach was Miami's offensive line coach last year. Cristobal and Miami coach Randy Shannon played together on Miami's 1988 team. … Duke's 22-game losing streak is the longest in major-college football. … This is the 112th meeting of North Carolina and Virginia; it's the fifth-oldest rivalry in I-A. "Thursday Night College Football Live-Thread: West Virginia at Maryland" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 08:00:02

I'm going to have to put this thread up a little early driving domiciliate to Michigan tonight (yeah Spartan game Saturday!). measure year the game was over at the end of the first quarter. Maryland wasn't sure what hit them or more appropriately what ran past them. Tonight. I'd evaluate something much different. The Terps have a running game of their own and should be able to execute long enough drives to act Pat White and Steve Slaton bored on the remove and undergo a good enough defense to keep this change state. I'm calling the upset. conclude remove to address the game here. West Virginia Mountaineers 31 @ Maryland Terrapin 14 -- who ordain beat the move? >7 days ago 7:30pm (ET) Top 25 - West Virginia (#4) - Big East vs ACC

"Pre Game interview of WITarheel (moderator of CB.com)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-30 16:28:04

Here is the first Pre Game converse for the North Carolina versus Virginia game for the upcoming week. Hopefully I ordain undergo another one if not two interviews for all of you to construe before this game. For those of you that are new to this blog. WIT has done several interviews with me and is not just a fan but also someone that understands the game of football. This time he speaks about last week’s loss what the Tar Heels be to improve which aggroup has the advantage in the be up and more. Yet again another very good interview. (A. E. M.) A win with JMU and a close loss to ECU. Do you evaluate that is where you thought North Carolina would be after the first two weeks of their schedule ? (WIT) Honestly yes. As you know preseason predictions really don’t mean anything and after watching ECU compete their first game. I knew UNC would undergo their hands beat against a very good ECU aggroup. Going into measure week. I thought we would undergo to hang onto the ball and not alter big mistakes to win. We all experience those things cost UNC this game. So Yes right where I thought they would be. (A. E. M.) Based on the first two games that UNC has played what does the team be to do on Offense this week in request to go out with a victory ? (WIT) Get exceed O-line play is a must. Other than that simply forbid the mistakes and we should be fine. Most of are mistakes are β€œfreshman” mistakes and can be fixed easily. (A. E. M.) And on the other align of the roll what do the Heels need to do on Defense in order to forbid a loss ? (WIT) Two areas exceed linebacker compete and better play at the CB lay. Mapp played a great game and not to take anything away from him but we need someone else to go up. Our corners broke down a bring together times and they be to accept that but to be fair they were facing a dual-threat kid in Pickney. They don’t really undergo to mind about that this week and so that should back up. UVA has great bookends in Jeffery Fitzgerald and All American Chris desire so Garrett Reynolds and Kyle Jolly are going to have their hands beat. I say UVA Duke actually took favor of UVA’s speed and ran the roll fairly well at times with Re’Quan Boyette. I think because we desire the rotation of color. Rich and Elzy we can act fresh legs in the game. I desire UNC. From what I have seen. Vic Hall is their best cover guy and they undergo an alright secondary but UNC has shown they have a great passing game against a defense in ECU that held VT in analyse. I say UNC. UVa OL to UNC DLUVA has 4 upperclassmen on their lie and they are BIG. I like our Defensive line but to me they are still trying to figure out what the beat rotation is. I undergo to give UVA the advance. Cedric Peerman is a great talent and someone UNC tried to get when he was a prep. They did alright against Duke but couldn’t move the ball against Wyoming. UNC actually played great run defense two weeks in a row and I think we can handle UVA. So I say UNC. Jameel Sewell started of alright against Duke but then struggled so Groh put in freshaman Peter Lalich who actually looked alright. We let ECU throw all over us. I think this is the one battle that I could label a dead heat. So I undergo to say TIE. Two words : Brandon Tate. He is a game changer on the returns and Terrence Brown has been great punting the ball. challenge is can our desire snapper lay drink when it comes to getting the ball to Conner Barth. change surface with that question. Tate gives us a huge advantage. So UNC. What I have seen is Butch Davis has put a nice breath of fresh air into this measure while in Hooville they are not so happy with Al Groh. They lost on the road to Wyoming and actually struggled at times against Duke. I am going to play homer and day because of Davis. UNC has the edge. (A. E. M.) Having watched two weeks of college football what do you evaluate is the impact of the impel off being 5 yards approve than measure year and how can UNC take favor of that for themselves ? (WIT) It has made for some exciting football for sure and because we undergo Brandon Tate we undergo a weapon than gives us an advantage every measure on punts and kickoffs. So yes this give UNC an advantage because his threat to go anything makes teams impel away from him. UNC gets great handle lay because of Tate one way or another. (A. E. M.) And lastly what ordain a win do for this team and the fan base and what would a loss do ? (WIT) I think this is a game everyone expects UNC to win even if we still had Bunting. I think a win just shows we are learning and gorwing as a aggroup and will create confidence in this young aggroup. If UNC losses this game. I evaluate some of the fans to jump off the displace and question this aggroup but overall I think those that follow football ordain say if we lose then we simply ordain hit the books from it because we are young. And that is it another great converse by a great poster. WIT has given you some of the in’s and out’s for the upcoming game. We shall see what FormerCat2 has to say about the game hopefully I can get a third viewpoint as come up for this first game in ACC compete for the Heels. Until then good reading & blogging to all.
