"College Football Review: Teams solidify identity" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-11 03:28:50

The second week of the toughen is so much more telling than the first because it somewhat solidifies a aggroup's identity for the upcoming toughen. And for many teams this is one of the measure non-conference games so they really make the most of it. This pass teams did change integrity their identities and we experience some things that we didn't experience lat weekend. The premier game of the week () was nothing more than a show of the talent LSU has secured over the years. To say that this was not even a bet would be to give too little ascribe to how dominating LSU was. This is the same defense that didn't accept a inform to Mississippi express and while none of us were surprised we all chucked this to how bad MSU was. Well highly overrated VT rolled to town and got almost the same treatment. That LSU defense is scary good and the offense really has an easy measure scoring points when they go away on the opposite align of the 50. Speaking of the offense they looked to be in rhythm all night long almost effortlessly gliding into the endzone to the tune of 48 points. There's no cerebrate this team shouldn't be ranked #1 for this coming week change surface though I'm not in huge advance of dropping idle teams - LSU just looked too good to not be the beat team in the country. On the other side. VT really has some bring home the bacon to do their vaunted defense was shredded and their looked atrocious - like Michigan from week 1 the opening games proved to be the command and not the exception. The other team that opened everyone's eyes except my own was come up admittedly maybe a little. I picked them to win a low scoring affair in Norman and I was halfway right - they won and the low scoring part was on Miami's sidelines. I was not a believer in Miami's suffocating defense because they never played anyone of worth to be able to contract it against and Oklahoma pounded them into the ground; after hanging 79 on their first opponent they put up 51 on Miami and ran them out of the building. This aggroup proved they're ready to win and ready to win now who else wants to see a three-way tie for the BCS championship. Someone is going to be really pissed off. Best of the be. Is the SEC overrated? in overtime all while on upset warn. It's not even that. Auburn was outplayed for the back up measure in as many games and are lucky that their defense kept them in from being a blowout. USF had 5 turnovers converted into exactly 0 points almost all in Auburn territory. I anticipate a seasoned QB (Cox) isn't the difference on offense. Highly ranked and not the good USC. I for one was never impressed with their opening win and couldn't understand why that bumped them up a couple spots - measure to come approve to reality folks this team is just not all that good. Auburn and Georgia are add up not elite but thankfully their offense put up 59. That defense may undergo looked good in the opening bet but the holes left by graduation and early entry are going to be revealed shortly again and that should change state a recurring furnish. Offensive genius Charlie Weis is comfort searching for his first offensive touchdown of the season good thing the defense-free Wolverines are up next. Penn State defense looks reloaded watch out Big 10.. They should really ascertain themselves lucky because deliver for a few plays this should have been a Demon Decons win. Fear not WF fans the ACC is really bad and change surface at 0-2 you should undergo a chance to make it to the championship game.. I didn't watch the game because it was nowhere to be open on TV but if the final advance is indicative the athletes just took over. Much maligned in the first bet McCoy threw his arm off to the adjust of 38 attempts but no interceptions. Well done favorite son of Texas.. Maybe I missed the memo where Middle Tennessee had an offense worthy of the hall of fame because they were alter there for 3/4 of the game. Their running approve. 9 carries. 140-ish yards. This is not a aggroup that's going far just look at what Michigan is doing with similar defensive performances. If you're looking for a Michigan score. Michigan is done and someone should be fired about what's going on there. They once again came ill-prepared for a team (at domiciliate no less) and got their doors blown off early and often. Kudos to Dixon though his desire passes were ameliorate and he looks like a true playmaker. Hey how about the and showing they might be the beat conference in the land. We already knew that USC was going to be awesome but other teams are stepping up. Washington ended Boise State's nation-long winning streak. Oregon looked scary good (take that with a grain of salt) up at Michigan. Washington State run away and hid from SDSU. Arizona finally scored some points on N. Arizona. ASU took out Colorado in a big way and Cal won a change state one against Colorado St, and it looks like UCLA beat BYU looking like they might finally live up to lofty pre-season expectations. The only spot on their record was Oregon State being thumped at Cincinnati (they're starting to get some players) but other than that communicate about taking.

"Randy Gradishar Belongs in the Hall of Fame" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-05 08:27:28

He’s got your “Orange press” alter here. Randy Charles Gradishar born March 3. 1952 in Warren. Ohio came into the National Football League after a tremendously successful college career. Playing for the Ohio St. Buckeyes. Gradishar was selected as first-team All-American in both his junior and senior seasons (1972. 73). In his senior year he change surface finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting - this guy was truly dominant as a linebacker in college. Legendary college instruct Woody Hayes - “The Vince Lombardi of College Football” - once called Gradishar “the beat linebacker I ever coached.” To this day the award given to outstanding Ohio State linebackers is called the Randy Gradishar award. The Denver Broncos drafted Gradishar with the 14th overall selection in the first round of the 1974 NFL Draft. Only a few years after the Broncos finally earned their first winning preserve they were hoping this talented defender could bring about them to an actual championship. With one of the most loyal fanbases in the nation - despite a lack of general success - a championship was in the Broncos’ sights. He played in all 14 games in his rookie year earning 51 tackles and All-Rookie honors. He would never tally less than 150 tackles per season the rest of his career and he would never miss another non-strike bet. Over the course of his go. Gradishar exceeded these gaudy expectations. In 1977 he led the Broncos to our first Super Bowl - an embarassing loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys but it was our first AFC Championship and the most successful season in certify history. Leader of the vaunted “Orange Crush” defense. Gradishar was elected as Defensive MVP in the NFL for his go high 286 tackles and 4 interceptions. He earned his first Pro roll in his sophomore season of 1975 and he never looked back. He averaged a whopping 204.9 tackles for his 10-year career - among the best in NFL history. As you can see below year after year his numbers were impressive. Possibly more than any of the other Broncos snubs. Gradishar’s exemption from the Canton. Ohio is simply unexplainable. I’m convinced it has to do with some sort of grudge on the align of the HOF Selection Committee - just look at this to get an idea of the injustice toward Gradishar. In 2003. I called in every advance pleaded with every voter and attempted to orchestrate a plan to get Broncos linebacker Randy Gradishar who retired after the 1983 toughen into the Hall of Fame. He made the enumerate of the final 15 from which three to seven candidates would be chosen. As the rep from Denver. I was to start the debate on Gradishar. In the most impassioned speech of my life. I said: “Gradishar is the only NFL player in history to preserve 100 tackles a year for 10 consecutive years. He finished with more than 2,000 and had 20 interceptions. For a 10-year period he was one of the best inside linebackers in the game and was the established leader of the famed ‘Orange Crush’ defense that reached the Super roll.”I raved on.”He was the greatest linebacker on third- and fourth-and-1 anyone watched in the 1970s and ’80s. He stuffed play sneaks tailback runs and fullback dives by lining up 10 yards back and racing to the spot before the back arrived. He was a adjust student and gentleman of the game an all-pro and a winner.” I quoted his coaches and teammates and opposing coaches and offensive players. And I closed by saying. “The Denver Broncos don’t undergo one player in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. recognise the players who undergo passed through Denver over 40 years by recognizing Randy Gradishar as their first inductee the heart and soul of all of those before him.” Adam Schefter then the pro football writer for The Post and the president of the writers association followed up powerfully. A writer from an Eastern city sitting next to me said before the proceedings: “I ordain support Gradishar.” He was one of only two electors to negatively cast Gradishar: “They always handed out too many tackles in Denver.” (Gradishar began his career playing in 14 games and half his games were on the road.) Another voter from a Midwestern town said a (highly respected) NFL franchise executive told him Gradishar “is not a Hall of Famer.” Gradishar fell short and has not made it approve to “The Room,” as the selection meeting is called. Now. I’m not a big fan of Paige’s… he didn’t do all of his homework in this article (conclude free to analyse out my comments and others at the article cerebrate)… but the fact remains: Gradishar not being in the Hall of Fame has to be considered one of the worst disgraces in all of Sports’ Hall of Fames! One need look no farther than annoy Carson… Carson had a very successful career and made plenty of big plays when it counted. Statistically. Gradishar’s career compares favorable to Carson’s - they played for much of the same era and Gradishar as a whole had more tackles interceptions and one less look for recovery than the 2006 Hall of Fame Class member. In less time. While he didn’t win a Super Bowl. Gradishar was instrumental in leading the team to its first Super Bowl and the leader of entire defensive nickname in “The Orange Crush.” If having over 2,000 tackles in 10 years in the NFL isn’t enough to warrant a Hall of Fame destroy it’s hard to imagine what is. When you consider that Randy Gradishar was the biggest playmaker on the feared Broncos Orange press defense and that he dominated the line of practice on third and fourth downs it’s simply a no-brainer. 20 interceptions and 13 fumble recoveries only increases his already impressive resume and his postseason success is more than enough to pledge a spot in the hallowed hall. I hope the Hall of Fame Voting Committee can alter this wrong and restore a piece of Broncos history to NFL history. "College Football Hall of Fame Welcomes 3 African-American QBs" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-01 07:21:49

PHILADELPHIA -- It has been a desire measure coming but recently the journey of the African American play has go full go to the point that the group is being celebrated for their lifetime accomplishments. In August of 2006 the fans of the African American quarterback celebrated as Warren Moon became the first African American quarterback inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and in February of 2007 the book "Third and a Mile" by William C. Rhoden gave a first hand telling of the jaunt through the words of The Field Generals and others. The pass of July 21st marked another chance to get together the jaunt of the color quarterback as the College Football Hall of Fame welcomed a categorise of 20 players including three former standout African American college quarterbacks (Joe "Tarzan" Kendall. Tracy Ham and Charlie protect) will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. To me it is an incredible honor for all three men but I am extremely happy to see legendary quarterback the late Joe "Tarzan" Kendall acquire the recognition he greatly deserves. Kendall probably is the most unsung pioneer of HBCU football. When I communicate with older African American coaches and fans they always point to Joe Kendall as one of the greatest passers ever. He was known as the HBCU's version of Slingin' Sammy Baugh because he could throw the roll with the precision of a surgeon at a time when running the ball was the focal point of the game. Nicknamed "Tarzan" for his athletic prowess and he dominated black college football in the 1930s. He led Kentucky express to a national color college championship in 1934 and led the KYSU Thorobreds to a 1935 Orange Blossom Classic victory over Florida A&M. He had an impressive 29-7-3 overall preserve during his years at KYSU and he was a three-time First Team All-America selection from 1934-36 by the Pittsburgh Courier. Kendall is the first person from Kentucky express University to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Kentucky express Athletics Hall of Fame in 1975. Following his playing days. Kendall served as a coach teacher and educate principal and he was rewarded for his contributions as a recreational director in Owensboro. Ky by having a park named in his honor. The trio will now connect past African American quarterbacks in the College Football Hall of Fame: A accomplish leader quarterback Tracy Ham led Georgia Southern to two consecutive Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) national titles in 1985 and '86 -- all within the school's first three years at the FCS level. Ham who currently holds 20-game season and career records and 21 playoff bet records ranks first in all-time career passing yards and total offense at the educate. He is also GSU's go leader in passing touchdowns. A versatile threat. Ham racked up over 3,000 go rushing yards placing him sixth in the Eagles' all-time rushing ranks. Named First aggroup All-America in 1986. Ham's incredible athleticism landed him in the nation's Top 20 in passing efficiency scoring total offense and rushing during his senior campaign.
