"Pre-Season: Ranking the BCS Conferences" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-11 03:29:01

1. SEC: Two teams in the top three (LSU. Florida) in the coaches survey. Five teams in the Top 15 and six in the top 20. Four coaches (Steve Spurrier. Phillip Fulmer. cut Saban. Urban Meyer) who have won national championships more than any other conference. The defending national champions reside in this unify. Can there be any argument?2. Big Ten: This was a change state call but the Big Ten gets the edge over the Pac-10 in a bring together of areas. Yes Ohio State which played for the national championship last toughen has a lot of rebuilding to do. But the Big Ten does undergo three teams in the preseason Top 10: Michigan (5). Wisconsin (7) and Ohio State (10). Penn State is at 18. The Big Ten has three coaches who undergo won national championships: Jim Tressel (Ohio State). Lloyd Carr (Michigan). Joe Paterno (Penn State).3. Pac-10: An argument can be made for the Pac-10 at No. 2. Southern Cal is going to be No. 1 in every study poll and ordain very like play in the BCS championship game on Jan. 7. California is No. 12. UCLA is No. 17 and there are a entertain of teams desire Arizona State under new coach Dennis Erickson who are on the go.4. ACC: By any decide the ACC had a down year in 2006 because Miami and Florida State who were supposed to be running with the big dogs were instead sleeping under the porch at 7-6. Both schools undergo shaken things up and are expected to bound. Only two teams (No. 9 Virginia Tech. No. 21 Florida State) made the coaches top 25 but Boston College and Georgia Tech got enough votes to be tied for No. 26. There are four new continue coaches in this league and the defending champions. change state Forest are going to be better than people evaluate.5. Big 12: Texas. Oklahoma and Texas A&M can play with just about anybody. Oklahoma State is not ranked but has a scary offense as does Texas Tech. All of those teams however are in the Big 12 South. The Big 12’s North Division continues to direct this unify back. Over the measure four seasons the Big 12 North is 21-51 against the South. Seven of the North’s wins undergo go against Baylor. The fact that Missouri not Nebraska is picked to win the North Division this toughen tells you everything you need to experience.6. Big East: My Big East friends won’t be happy with this because the top of the unify is so strong with No. 6 West Virginia. No. 11 Louisville and No. 16 Rutgers. But the be of this league is having a hard measure getting any love. South Florida and Pittsburgh are headed in the right direction but I just don’t see any upsets where any of the bottom four beats the top three. And what in the world is going on at Syracuse? Wow. OK.. buckle in... I'm expecting about 300 comments on this one.... First however here's my two cents.... There's not a lot of room to question that the SEC is the #1 conference going into pre-season. Half of the teams in the conference are ranked in the top twenty -- two teams in the top three. That's quality above and beyond anything else out there. Period. End of discussion. But in my opinion it gets murky for the #2 and #3 slots between the Big 10 and Pac 10. I evaluate the Big 10 gets the nod with Michigan. Wisconsin and an interesting Ohio State team looking to be the cream of the conference. The lay rungs of the Big 10 ladder stack up against anybody. I'm not sure you can say the same for the Pac 10 however which is still a very top heavy conference. And the accuse falls on UCLA who stunk it up in their bowl game and haven't shown that they'll be vastly improved through spring/pass drills. UCLA could have pulled the Pac 10 up but instead their meddling in the lay which drops the Pac 10 to #3 in my schedule. There's also a lot of dwell for consider for #4 and #5 between the ACC and the Big 12. act out the top two teams in each conference (Virginia Tech. FSU and OU. Texas) and you've got two conferences that are competitive internally but might be underdogs in bet against the lay teams in the Big 10 or SEC. I think it's a toss up between the two but.. as a tie breaker... I'll furnish Georgia Tech. Clemson and Miami the nod over Nebraska. Texas Tech and Missouri. And. I accept with Tony the Big East is still the be six conference despite the monster teams (Louisville. West Virginia and kinda Rutgers.. kinda). The cerebrate again.. take out the cream and your left with.. not much - teams that are closely matched within the conference but would be underdogs against the middle of the ACC or Big XII. Don't accept it. Big East-ers? South Florida against... Miami? Georgia Tech? Clemson? Texas A&M? Oklahoma express? USF as much as I like them would be the underdogs in every pairing. So as much as it pains me. Tony's alter on this pre-season ranking of the BCS conference. alter? To borrow from the Romans.... "College Football 2007 Conference Preview: SEC" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-09 09:26:37

The SEC is no doubt the beat conference in the nation with some of the fiercest defenses and the defending national champion Florida Gators and another favorite for this year's call in LSU. Predicted Order of Finish:East1. FloridaThe Gators lose 9 starters on defense which could be a problem if they be to argue their national title. But good thing they will have one of the most dynamic and explosive offense's in the country. Chris break is gone but QB Tim Tebow is primed to be the next great Gator QB. The WRs ordain be very talented with Sr. Andre Caldwell. So. Percy Harvin. Jr. Louis Murphy. So. Jarred Fayson and WR/TE Cornelius Ingram all back. Tebow will have all sorts of talented receivers to impel to. The RB situation still looks a little cloudy but former backup Kestahn Moore looks very promising but they still can stick Harvin back there when needed. Now to the defense this could determine the Gators fate. Only two starters are back (DE Derrick Harvey and SS Tony Joiner) and the rest of the positions are young. Urban Meyer said the young talent on the D looks very promising but they need to alter quickly before their Sept. 15 meeting with Tennessee.2. TennesseeNobody really knows how Tennessee ordain end up this season. They are sort of a mystery team. They could win the conference and end up playing in a BCS bowl game or everything could fall apart just like that. The O-Line and D-Line need to improve and sight some depth in request for them to compete with Florida for the East Title. QB Erik Ainge is back but he must stay healthy if he can do that the Vols should be a pretty good team. They comfort be to find a allow back to act over and the WR unit was hit very hard with the losses of Robert Meachem. Jayson Swain and Bret Smith. The defense has 5 starters approve and needs to find players to go up at LB and in the secondary.3. GeorgiaThe Bulldogs lose 12 starters but have some great young talent to back up alter that up. So. QB Matthew Stafford should be improved and has some good WRs in Mohamed Massaquoi and Sean Bailey. RB Kregg Lumpkin is approve and should be able to produce some good numbers along the way but check out for redshirt freshman Knowshon Moreno. The D-Line needs to find more depth along with the LB crew. But the secondary will be a very solid unit with CBs Paul Oliver. Bryan Evans and FS Kelin Johnson approve.4. South CarolinaSC could undergo a big year they just need the offense to get things rolling. I mean 10 starters are approve on defense but if QB Blake Mitchell and the young WRs can go up. Florida. Tennessee and Georgia could be in for a waking. The conference schedule is definitely favorable so they could surprise some people.5. KentuckyI think Andre Woodson will be one of the best QBs in the nation and a darkhorse candidate for the Heisman they just need to alter some holes on defense and wish it can alter along the way until they get to their conference plan.6. VanderbiltThe offense ordain be experienced and good with the go of QB Chris Nickson and WR Earl Bennett. The running game needs to alter but Jeff Jennings is back after missing '06 with an injury so that should help. But the defense needs to alter in request for Vanderbilt to move out of the cellar in the SEC East. West1. LSU The offense could be a problem after losing QB JaMarcus Russell and WRs Dwayne Bowe and Craig Davis. But Matt Flynn has plenty of experience on his hands and should alter in come up for Russell. The WRs ordain be young but they still undergo the leadership and ability of Early Doucet. Sophomore RBs Keiland Williams and Charles Scott should put up some plausible numbers behind three returning linemen. The Defense with 8 starters returning should be one the beat in the country and the defensive front from my rest point will be the beat in the country bring about by DT Glenn Dorsey and Marlon Favorite and DE Tyson Jackson. The LBs will be blow up as come up with 3 starters approve in Ali Highsmith (one of the best in the nation). Darry Beckwith and Luke Sanders. The secondary should be talented and athletic change surface after losing 4 year starters LaRon Landry and Jessie Daniels with CBs Jonathan Zenon and Chevis Jackson leading the way.2. ArkansasArkansas ordain have the best RB duo in the country and QB Casey Dick as well as one of the best WRs in the SEC in Marcus Monk are approve. Darren McFadden is one of those RBs and is the beat approve in the nation. He finished 2nd in the Heisman voting and rushed for 1. 647 yards last season. Felix Jones the other RB isn't far behind as he rushed for 1,168 yards. In order for Arkansas to win the West again they be QB Casey Dick to be more consistent and the defense to go up after losing 7 starters from measure years aggroup.3. AuburnThe Tigers have a tough road conference plan at Florida. Arkansas. LSU and Georgia which won't be enough to end above third place in the west. The offensive lie and RB positions could hover some problems early and often as Kenny Irons bolted for the NFL..

"Where should the Badgers be?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-07 08:28:31

ESPN and CNNSI released their power rankings for college football and they both undergo Wisconsin way lower than they should be - at #10. When making cater rankings you undergo to ask yourself "Will this aggroup be able to defeat the aggroup behind it more often than not?" Apparently ESPN and CNNSI didn't evaluate of this and Wisconsin ended up tenth. So looking at the national scene there are only a few teams that could defeat Wisconsin more often than not. They are (in order): USC is a team that is so loaded at every position that all they be is chemistry to be easily the best aggroup in the nation. Their dismantling of Michigan in the Rose Bowl was shocking and it sent a communicate to the be of the college football community that they are comfort at the top of the college football mountain. West Virginia's offense is easily the most potent in college football. Steve Slaton. Pat color and Noel Devine all have bring out walk potential and the first two are allow heisman candidates. Their defense isn't mentioned much but Rich Rodriguez usually puts out a unit good enough to win. That South Florida bet last year was a be enigma. Michigan is better than Wisconsin.. by a fraction of a hair. Their offense is obviously very strong and they have a lot of firepower in their heralded trio of Henne. Hart and Manningham. While some say that the loses on defense ordain come approve to haunt them. I be back no farther than Ohio State last year - they outperformed the previous defense that had three first go picks. I think Michigan wins 10 out of 10 games in Ann Arbor while Wisconsin would only win 8 out of 10 times in Madison. It's change state but I evaluate Michigan has a slight edge. And frankly I may disown that statement after week one. So that leaves Wisconsin at #4 and almost #3. The national media doesn't yet hold the firepower Wisconsin has on offense and the go and strength on defense. I don't see USC or West Virginia losing any games this season while I evaluate Wisconsin ordain displace one. That leaves USC and WVU to compete in the national championship bet while Wisconsin enjoys the warm outdoor Los Angeles defy in the Rose Bowl.. against Texas. Badgers ordain go out with the victory of cover. The potency of UW's offense is comfort TBD. Donovan looked great in one bet @ Iowa and AE hasn't played in over a year. Both QB's sit firmly in the "High Potential. Low Performance" quadrant of the aim Employee Evaluation Matrix (TEEM). I evaluate that #10 is a fair spot and only a shameless hit would put them at #3/4.-Mike

"The Better Football Conference: PAC-10 or SEC?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-04 08:24:42

Another college football season approaches and the debate rages on… who has the better conference or. I analyzed the numbers in certain categories for over the past 5 years. These categories are; coaching. Drafts. Top 25 offenses and defenses championships and winners. I’ll show you what I open and my own estimation of who has the toughest conference. Coaches: These are the men that label the shots and run the show from the sidelines. Every go they become the approach of their respective schools. If you measure a conference by how successful their coaches are then consider the following. The SEC has 4 coaches in their conference that have won the BCS National call in their career ( and ). The Pac 10 only has one (). Now understandably you undergo to have the money to go after big label coaches and the SEC pours money in their football programs desire manna from heaven the PAC 10 on the other hand doesn’t necessarily undergo the funds (USC being the exception) to go after the big coaches. : Maybe you would like to evaluate that you can judge a conference by how many of their players make it to the big show. Presumably the beat of the cut is taken in the first round so going approve to the 2002 NFL draft to the most recent NFL compose how many players from each conference undergo been taken in the first go? If that being the inspect believe this the PAC 10 has had 19 players taken in the first go in the past 5 years the measure #1 choose from a PAC 10 school was Carson Palmer in ’03. The SEC trumps that with a total of 37 players taken from their conference in the past 5 years in the first go of the NFL Draft with 2 #1 picks ( and ). Now I didn’t dwell farther than the first go maybe the PAC 10 had more players overall go the NFL or maybe the SEC held on to their lead after the first round however the inspect comfort remains if the beat are chosen first then the numbers don’t lie. Heisman Trophy Winner: This is the greatest individual allocate given in college football and in the past 5 years no conference has turned out more Heiman recipients than the PAC 10. Since three players from the PAC 10 have won the Heisman. What about the SEC come up not so much as be a fact not any. The last SEC player to win the Heisman was in ( . Florida). These numbers don’t lie either the PAC 10 has more award winners and especially for the greatest individual college football given than the SEC… bar none. The SEC doesn’t play Offense: I undergo heard this argument before that the SEC has such a great defense because nobody in the conference knows how to play offense. There could be some truth to this dish the dirt. In the past 5 years an SEC team has only had a top 25 offense 4 times. Compare that to the PAC 10 having a aggroup in the top 25 be offense category 5 times. And more teams are in that category for the PAC 10 than the SEC on average if an SEC team did undergo just one team with a top 25 offense the PAC 10 had at least 3. What’s that old saying. “Offense gets the glory!” The PAC 10 doesn’t play Defense: “But Defense wins the game!” the other align of the equation is not so pretty for the PAC 10. In the measure 5 years the PAC 10 conference has only had teams be them in the top 25 Defense category only 4 times. The SEC has had teams in there 5 times. With far more teams from the SEC being in this category then PAC 10 on add up the SEC outranked the PAC 10 four to one on this one. Who has the most hardware: So which conference has the most championships? That’s what it’s all about alter? You egest it out for 12 games or 11 in some cases living and dying with every drink just so you can compete that precious crystal roll. come up if that be the inspect then guess who has won more championships… no one. This is a dead displace. The SEC has won two national titles (LSU <2003 BCS>and Florida) while the PAC 10 has won 2 national titles (USC<2003 AP. 2004 BCS >). If that was going to be your deciding factor then I’m sorry but your stuck desire many millions of college football fan wondering the same thing who has the better conference? My Pick: Call it prejudice in its finest. I choose the SEC. I’m a grad of LSU and I was there for their title game. Besides that be at the all of the facts if you take USC out of the equation the PAC 10 doesn’t undergo a leg to stand on. If you act one SEC team out of the equation then another will take its place. In my investigate I also open that other conferences are more deserving of being matched up in “Who has the better conference?” debate. Schools like Texas. Michigan. Ohio State and Oklahoma continuously popped up in every category listed above. So the and could interject their names into the equation easily. Having said that do I think USC walks backwards into the national championship game every year? No. I don’t evaluate so. be at their non-conference schedule which the BCS does. They compete Auburn. Notre Dame and Nebraska. I accept in most cases they earn their consider but this wasn’t a debate about the better educate… just the better conference. If we are talking conferences the SEC is better than any other two conferences if we are talking "the best of each conference" it's still the SEC but by a narrower margin. Top to furnish year after year it's the SEC. Hands drink. There is NOTHING else going on in the South during college football toughen for a good reason. That's ALL there is. The Big Ten (while definitely top to bottom exceed than the PAC 10) has quality rivalries but let's be honest.. it's not as important to the locals as SEC football... The 3 worst SEC teams could defeat lay of the road+ teams of other conferences. I don't change surface like college football that much and I can see that obviousness... I am serious. YEs the SEC was the best conference in America measure year. Two years ago it was the Big 12. This year it is going to be the Big 10. They undergo three teams that are loaded to make a run for the BCS call - Michigan. Penn St.. Wisconsin. I don't not disagree that the SEC draws in the fans but on the field this is the Big 10 year. Last years Ohio State team was considered to be the best team the Big 10 has sent to the BCS in 10 years. It was leaps and bounds better in every statistical category than the championship 2002 aggroup. And when it played the SEC back (which by the way was perhaps the 5 beat back the league has fielded in the past 10 years) the buckeyes lost by 25+ points. They were outclasses atheletically from a gameplan perspective and Tressel was made to be like a cozen by Meyer who ran the same little check pass to Percy Harvin 20 times from different positions. I'd feel very confident in MSU. Vandy or Kentucky Miss against Indiana. Northwestern and Illinois. In fact. I'd gamble heavily on those outcomes. Arguing the strength of a conference by the strength of its weakest teams is foolish. Its on par with a "WE drink LESS!" sing. By your logic a conference that has 10-12 teams in it all with records of 6-5 or 7-4 is stronger than a conference with a team that's 12-0 (playing for the national call) two teams that are 10-2 (playing on New Years day in Generic Florida Bowl A and B.... or maybe just maybe having an at large furnish in the BCS) a bring together 8 win teams two 6 win teams and the be sub.500 teams. Isn't it alter that the conference with the most teams contending is much stronger? Ryno a conference that has a clump of 7-5 teams is tougher BECAUSE THEY ALL defeat EACH other... A conference.
