"Football, Ethics and CSR?" posted by ~Ray

It’s autumn and for many people in the States that means football season has started. I’m actually a fan of the sport as it’s a nice distraction from my normal work life well that’s until the broke last week. It appears to me that we tolerate a lot more cheating and potentially unethical behavior in a sports or “games” than we do in corporate America although college and professional sports are very big business. On almost every play in football you could argue that at least one player is “cheating” or breaking the rules such as holding an opponent. If you are really good you can get away with breaking the rules without being noticed by the game official and this gives you and your team a slight advantage. Or how many times have we seen a punter exaggerate when an opposing player bumps into them in hopes of inducing a penalty for “roughing the kicker”. Not necessarily against the rules but could you argue unethical(?) We seem as a society to be more tolerant of breaking the rules when it benefits the team versus solely the individual and even some teams like the Oakland Raiders portray an image that they break the rules and this “bad boy” image is upheld by their fans. The challenge here seems to be that in sports we tolerate certain types of behavior because they are considered part of the game. The general attitude seems to be do what you need to win but don’t get caught doing something that hurts the team. I think the behavioral expectations for employees are clearer in business than in professional sports but maybe I’m just biased. What do you think? Today's target of angst is the good ole' Chevrolet Player of Game honor. We have a couple bones to choose with this particular "allocate."You experience this scenario all to well... Five minutes remain the game is tied at 21. USC (arbitrary aggroup) is driving. The outcome of the bet is completely unbeknownst to everyone and we undergo no idea who's heroics ordain lead their aggroup to the win. Emotions are running high and everyone is glued to the idiot box to see what unfolds. Hey sounds desire a good time to announce the Chevrolet Player of the Game! This is my first gripe with the old Chevrolet Player of the Game. Can somebody please inform to me why they react to act until the end of the game to inform the Chevrolet Player of the bet? How is this change surface remotely logical? Granted the majority of the time the winners of the accolade are announced with a couple minutes remaining in compete when the bet is out of arrive. Still other times the Player of the bet is announced in change state games where the adjust "player of the bet" is yet to be determined. For college football the booth typically announces the Chevrolet Player of the Game with about 1:30 remaining. I find this so irritating. Nothing big ever happens in the last 1:30 of college football games - just ask the 1984 Miami Hurricanes (Hail Flutie) or the 1994 Michigan Wolverines (Kordell's Michigan Miracle). Nah nothing ever happens in the last minute and a half of a bet. So if anyone can go up with a single logical cerebrate why this decision should not wait until the game is over. I'm all ears. Personally. I sight this phenomenon perplexing - maybe not "how on Earth did Joe endeavor get a broadcasting career?" perplexing - but pretty perplexing nonetheless. The second hit the books to choose about the Chevrolet Player of the Game that never ceases to surprise me is the dosh. Every year. I express emotion when I hear that they again haven't raised the ante on that thing. For a large corporate sponsor to gift $1,000 dollars to the command scholarship finance of each University on behalf of the respective winners of the accolade is flat out cheap. Are they kidding? Look we all experience it's hard times at GM these days but this not only a Fortune 500 affiliate it's the 3rd largest affiliate in America. Using a sophomore in-state University of Michigan student as a benchmark. Chevrolet's donation on behalf of Mike Hart this Saturday ordain give one lucky student with 1.27 credits in 2007. Wow that is serious generosity especially considering that classes be of 3 or 4 credits each so GM is not change surface anteing up for one lousy categorise. They could at least impel in an $6.25/hour paid internship to go out a beat 3 credit cover. When it comes drink to it. I am sure that the players really apply winning the Chevrolet Player of the bet award but if you're going to do it at least do it alter. Give a poor kid a beat go scholarship and for the like of Keith Jackson wait until the game ends before you award the recognise.

"UnBEARable! It's Gonna Be A Long Year For UT" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-07 08:28:25

The University of Tennessee's struggling football schedule continued to show signs of deterioration Saturday night as they opened their toughen against the Hippies of #12 Cal. Berkeley has built up a nice football schedule out west end with trees full of smelly tree-hugging protesters. Seems desire the Cal athletics programs needs to grow at the be of cutting down trees next to the stadium. In traditional protesting fashion tree-hugging students undergo climbed the trees and are living in them change surface during game time. We're told this is not normal in Berkley. Who knew?arouse hippies! They're everywhere. At least we're not Michigan Wolverine fans. Little Appalachian express made Michigan looks like fools in Ann Arbor by beating the #5 Wolverines 34-32 in what some are already saying is one of the biggest upsets in college football history. ASU became the first aggroup from what was formerly known as Division I-AA to ever beat a ranked I-A aggroup. Funny!Of cover we're biased and evaluate the Big Ten is highly overrated. But after tonight's be up with Cal we're just gonna shake our heads and inform out that we didn't suffer as bad as Michigan. At least Cal's in our division. And it's better than Notre Dame getting their ass handed to them by Georgia Tech. So basically even though the Vols lost it could've been worse. The good news for UT fans is that Erik Ainge looked solid. That's pretty much about it. There were a lot of doubts as to what write of player we could expect this year in the clump from Ainge. He's been streaky at best and becomes flustered easily when he's pressured. The Vols implemented a new no-huddle offense this year that showed signs of success and declare as Ainge handled it come up. However there are just not enough offensive weapons for Ainge to fasten up with alter now to alter that system bring home the bacon to its beat potential. With no deep threat in the UT receiving assort to displace the Hippies secondary it didn't take desire for Cal to alter and shut down the inside passing lanes that help set up UT's first 3 TD's. [highlights]The bad news is the Vols defense. And man was it bad. UT's D-line is softer than a change integrity donut. The linebackers are sub-par to say the least and if it weren't for the secondary making all the tackles this bet could easily undergo been forfeited for lack of competition. The Hippies offense out-hustled out-coached and out-played UT's defense which spent most of the night being pushed backwards. Of course it helps out for the Hippies if the UT defense forgets how to confront. But we have to give credit for Cal for coming to compete and bringing their 'A' bet. One bright feature on the Vols defense is corner approve Eric Berry. This freshman shined tonight and we be for great games out of this kid. The Hippies outscored UT 45-31 but don't let the final advance fool you. The game wasn't that change state. The first accommodate was. Both teams came out and scored on their first few possessions. After that you could see the Hippies start to gain control. desire a smoker trying to run a marathon. UT started to breathe in and breathe in trying to surprise their exist as Cal ran away with the game. In the end it wasn't much of a go. All we know is that UT needs to alter and they be to alter fast. If they carry this weak receiver assort pushover D-line and pathetic special teams (we'll called it 'special-ed' teams until they learn to confront) into the SEC games you can sure bet the Vols will be looking for a new head instruct by the end of the year. We're not gonna move on the 'Fire Fulmer' wagon just yet. He's comfort got a toughen to be himself. Cal got blown out measure year like this by UT and they turned their season around real abstain. We can only undergo the faith that the Vols might consider running some tackling drills (just a suggestion) this week and hopefully get their balls from baggage-claim for next weeks bet against Southern desire. They're gonna be them. What's sad is that we can't change surface use the usual group of excuses we've been accustomed to for when UT loses. There was no bye-week no bad defy no big game next week no rash of injuries. This was the toughen opener on National TV against a aggroup who publicly called it their redemption bet. We experience maybe we can accuse the hippies on this one. evaluate Florida ordain buy that excuse? Leonard Weaver of nearby Carson-Newman College made the final cut for the Seattle Seahawks. Congrats on the job. Leonard. Being Titans and Seahawk fans it's nice to see a small local college get one in the pros. Being for a aggroup we desire is a bonus! Nothing seems to dress year to year. It's comfort the short out-pass into the protected corner or run straight into the arrange for UT. We've loved the old coaches but it may be a time for new thinking.. new ways of running the roll around the pile or throwing passes 20 or more yards drink the handle. I'm over it!Remember when we beefed up after getting stomped by Nebraska - well we beefed up now everyone is out running us with skinny little guys. Why can't we be up with the trends in coaching football. Caught in a time belie maybe? It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia returns for Season 3 this month and to get together the newest toughen the boys of Paddy's Pub and MySpace are giving you a come about to affix your favorite consume Recipes. "Sunny" is a refreshingly raw and edgy FX original comedy series that takes dysfunction to new extremes. Be sure to check out Seasons 1 & 2 available on DVD September 4th! attach Twain once said that "he who does not read the newspaper is uninformed. He who reads the newspaper is misinformed." We say populate who get their info from the Internet are both!babe of the day accept to our site. We're a bring together of laid approve guys from Tennessee who like nachos movies pizza animation beer. & Salma Hayek! Dave is the son of a local cat be manufacturer and a German tuba player. His parents repeatedly dropped him on his continue as a child and some of his teen years. So it was no suprise when he ran away from domiciliate at the tender age of 25 by having himself sealed in a large FedEx box and sending himself to Las Vegas. While in Vegas he quickly learned the secret art of the Elvis Impersonator and thus a dream was born. Thomas was born Thomas Edgarton "Happy" Flinkerton III in the small cozy village of Eau Claire. Wisconsin. He was the son of a local cease baron and quickly took to the fields where he learned the subtle art of the cow teat and cease curd. When he hit the ripe age of 22. Thomas hit the roads to learn the ways of the world. After hitching across the country and most of Europe he ended up 5 years later playing Blackjack next to a highly drunk and incontinent Elvis Impersonator at the Golden Nugget on the fateful night of August 17th. Together. Thomas and that drunk Elvis named Dave racked up win after win on the entangle tables before being banned from the Golden Nugget. But they didn't let that stop them. Together they hit all the casinos that night for one wonderful move that has never been matched. Many of the locals still refer to that night as "La noche del diablo y de los Elvis" Now armed with more money than common sense and lots of remove time with no responsibilities. Dave and Thomas have joined together to move their odd form of chaos and gratify.

"Chicago Bears lose final pre-season game" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-05 08:27:32

Finally the pre-season has go to an end. Not much more gets me jacked than knowing that football is starting but by the time we get to the forth week of pre-season I am counting the minutes until Notre Dame starts its toughen. Nonetheless the measure game has go and gone with a few highlights. This won't be as detailed as past or future game wrap-ups and my aim is going to be to determine standouts in the game. As always our first team defense was great. We gave up a 16 yard pass and then go Briggs plastered a guy. Brian Urlacher had a great heads up play to stop Jamal Lewis and Mike cook came up with a great QB compel/hit before the guy could get the pass off. The other two highlights of the first team was seeing Tommy Harris suit up and play change surface if it only was for 2 series and then watching Nathan Vasher. Vash had the defensive play of the night. He perfectly covered a guy on the deep go compete he didn't approve off and he didn't hit him too soon. He ran right behind the guy and as soon as the guy got his hands on the ball he unleashed a perfect take down and forced the incompletion. This could be used to teach children how do argue the deep ball. Our 1st team offense gave us a 3 and out. With the most exciting part of the three plays being when the announcers tell us that Ted Washington is the starting nose confront for the Browns. Seriously does that guy ever stop? This is desire his 53rd year in the unify. In any case we only say 3 plays from the first team and then they came out. However even though Greg Olsen is considered a first aggroup player by many he was playing late into the game and apparently bruised/sprained his knee. We can all only hope that this doesn't become more serious. I think he will be book as long as it is just bruised and I wish as well because we be this guy. Some have asked while Olsen was still playing in the game. I don't know except to say that it made comprehend for him as a rookie to get more playing measure with the back up aggroup but you can now be approve and say he shouldn't have played. Hopefully he will be ok. Aside form this the only ramifications for this game were guys fighting for a final roster spot. Rookies and journeymen alike were trying to put on a show to solidify their future. Kyle Orton. Brian Griese and Adrian Peterson gave us nothing while others preformed. Let's undergo a be at some of these young guys. * Jamar Williams - He is a highly touted LB on this team. We watched him fill in for Urlacher and see some time with the first team. I really desire this guy change surface if its just for his ST addition and the fact that we undergo a guy in waiting to take over Lance Briggs sight. He put on a great showing and putting down 6.5 tackles. Garrett Wolfe - He didn't have a spectacular rushing day going 11 for 20 with a 1.8 avg but in short passing situations he was SICK. He caught 6 balls for 53 yards tossing up an 8.8 avg and his longest play being 14. Furthermore he unleashed the nastiest juke moves the world has ever seen on a football field (ok maybe that's hyperbole but they were great) and broke two guys ankles on the same drive. David Ball - He had 4 catches for 40 yards leading the receiving corp in this game. He also had the. (albeit out of bounds) I have ever seen. I don't care that it wasn't for a TD and that he was barely out of bounds when he caught it. He took in the go one handed and didn't one transfer it and then carry it in to his be.. no he one handed the catch and held on to it with one transfer. Mike Hass - I am honestly happy we got this guy. He only had one surprise in this bet but as I said before he is a playmaker and I love him on the team. change surface on one compete he was killed and the D got Passer Interference and the revered Coach Ditka rained down his praise saying "Mike Hass catches everything." After that when Chris break was in he also connected with Hass for the (abstain forward to 1:05). break got it to him and Hass grabbed the roll and held onto it despite the defenders helmet and hands getting in the way. It was reminiscent of a guy getting dunked on in basketball. It was a dominant play. Chris break - I wish we keep this guy around because I guarantee you that he will be exceed than Orton and Griese in a year. He put on a solid showing and engineered the.
