"Hypothetical 2007 BCS Playoffs" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-25 01:35:59

This season started with Division I-AA (Football Championship Subdivision) power Appalachian State upsetting No. 5 Michigan at the Big House in Ann Arbor. The year ended with four-win Pittsburgh knocking out No. 2 West Virginia at the Backyard Brawl in Morgantown. If there has ever been a college football season that needed to end in a NCAA Tournament-style playoff this is definitely it. There are countless suggestions for the format of a hypothetical college football playoff — including a plus-one game a four-team playoff an eight-team playoff etc. In this particular mock BCS playoff we’ve decided to go with a 16-team bracket including 11 conference champions and five at-large teams. There are six BCS champs — Ohio State (Big Ten). LSU (SEC). USC (Pac-10). Oklahoma (Big 12). Virginia Tech (ACC) and West Virginia (Big East) — as well as five non-BCS conference champions — Hawaii (WAC). BYU (Mountain West). UCF (Conference USA). FAU (Sun Belt) and Central Michigan (MAC). The five at-large berths were debatable. The results were Georgia. Florida. Missouri. Kansas and Illinois. The final "bubble teams" to be cut were Arizona express. Tennessee. Boston College and Boise State. Just like in college basketball’s NCAA Tournament not every good aggroup can alter the field. But the teams that did make the tournament would provide several match-ups that the regular toughen did not provide. In-conference. Big 12 South champ Oklahoma would face Big 12 North runner-up Kansas in a game that never happened in 2007. The same for SEC West champ LSU and SEC East runner-up Georgia if both teams were able to advance past the first round of the BCS's "Big Dance." Individually. Florida’s Tim Tebow and West Virginia’s Pat White would provide a duel of dual-threat quarterbacks while Hawaii’s Colt Brennan and Missouri’s Chase Daniel would showcase two of the most accurate and prolific arms in the country. Who knows? Ohio State and LSU might meet each other in the final game. But at least USC. Oklahoma. Georgia. Virginia Tech or any other team would have a shot at winning the BCS national title.

It is interesting to see how many of the teams in the pre-season poll are not in the top ten anymore.  See chart below. In fact some of them are not even ranked at all!  And sight that the current #1 and #3 teams (Missouri and Ohio State) are not change surface ranked.  Missouri did not even alter the Top 25! I evaluate it demonstrates how weak is the foundation for determining teams’ worth.  Perhaps no rankings should come out at all until teams have played 1/2 of their conferecne schedules. "A look at the Badger basketball recruits" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-30 19:53:50

This is the blog for Scott Tappa a big fan of Wisconsin sports a sports editor at newspapers in Fremont. Ohio and Oshkosh. Wis. and compose of the What's on Tapp sports column for The Daily Cardinal. A few weeks ago I mentioned my love for preseason college football magazines. That was actually preceded by my love for preseason college basketball magazines. My first was Street and Smith. 1987-88 with Keith Smart and Bobby Knight of Indiana on the adjoin. By today's standards it was remarkably alter mostly black and white newsprint. Inside was the high school All-American aggroup headlined by Alonzo Mourning. Billy Owens and Chris Jackson. Those high educate All-American lists were always fascinating to me. In the pre-Internet world this accounted for 90% of the prep hoops information I got in any given year the other 10% being the McDonald's All-American game. I was tardy getting my first preseason pub this year but picked one up last week - Sporting News - and immediately flipped to the high educate pages. I was pleased to see three of the listed.-Jared Berggren a 6-10 center from Princeton. Minn. was high honorable mention.-Robert Wilson a 6-2 (or 6-5 depending on what you read) wing from Garfield Heights. Ohio was also high honorable mention. The Berggren signing was key. His commitment happened before Tubby Smith took over at Minnesota and if Tubby can build any semblance of a wall around that state it will cut off a nice little talent pipeline we've had going these last few years (Jon Leuer. Kammron Taylor. Jordan Taylor). He'll move in nicely to the spots Brian Butch and Greg Stiemsma will be vacating. Rivals has him listed as the #11 center prospect in the country. Wilson is just as important. As was exposed against Duke we need guards/wings to fasten with top teams and we're just not that deep there at this time. The current freshman class brought in two bigs and a wing who's more of a shooter than a lockdown defender although Tim Jarmusz's athleticism may be underrated.-Jordan Taylor is the other guard Bo Ryan signed a 6-1 point guard from Erik Olson's pet of the woods. St. Louis Park. Minn. He doesn't show up anywhere on my All-American lists but he may end up being the most important member of this recruiting class. With Michael Flowers graduating we'll need a backup point next year and though Bo usually doesn't play freshman point guards much you need insurance behind Trevon Hughes. Rivals ranks Taylor as the 22nd beat inform follow in the country. Sounds.
